The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. At The Parkgate Academy we carefully identify where to spend this funding to ensure that it has a positive impact on the emotional well-being and progress and attainment of the children it is intended for. Its impact is carefully monitored and measured to ensure it is making a positive difference.
In order to meet the above requirements, The Parkgate Academy will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils. Our priority will be focused on ‘narrowing the gap’ for those pupils not on track to achieve the ‘expected standard’ at the end of Key Stage 2, or to make good progress. As part of the additional provision made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, the academy will ensure that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed through termly pupil progress monitoring.
In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, The Parkgate Academy recognises that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged. The academy also recognises that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. The West Park Academy has the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil of groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
Pupil Premium is used for all children who are eligible for Free School Meals, children who are Looked After and children of Armed Services Personnel.
