This year in Year 3 we are looking at a range of topics.
In the autumn term, we shall be learning about the transition from Stone Age to Iron Age. We will visit Creswell Crags to find out how we know about how Stone Age people used to live.
In science, we shall be learning about different rocks and soils. Alongside this, we will be creating our own fossil frames in Design and Technology!
After October half term we will be looking at light in science, and focusing on settlements in our topic work. In Art we will be exploring the artist Andy Walhol and use of negative and positive images!
In the Spring term, we are learning all about Ancient Egypt! We will be exploring the River Nile in our geography work.
We will also be learning all about forces and magnets in our spring science work.
Later in the spring, the water cycle is our geography topic, and our science topic is all about how plants survive. In art, we will be exploring the techniques of the impressionists in representing water- in particular, Seurat.
In the summer term, we hope to visit Sherwood Forest for a night’s stay in their youth hostel, should restrictions allow. We’ll update you on this as soon as we possibly can.
Reading is something we love to do and we really hope you can share this experience with your child. We ask you to listen to your child read daily and write a note in their diary to let the teacher know how they got on. Home Learning is also set in Year 3 and we expect to see one piece of Home Learning every Tuesday!
Maths is another area we all love and we shall be focusing on learning times tables throughout the year. Again, any help you can do with our child at home at learning their times tables would be much appreciated.
In Year 3, P.E is done every week on Monday and Wednesday. It is very important that each child brings their own P.E kit (shorts, t-shirt and plimsoles) and keeps this in school each half term. Use the websites below to help practise times tables.
Listed below are some further websites which can help you in your learning. Enjoy taking part in these activities when you are at home and continuing your learning outside of school. Continue to check the website on a regular basis as it will be regularly updated with new items added.
The Year 3 team are always available and happy to discuss any queries you may have. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
